Unrequited Love

Life in my new studio flat is wonderful, no flatmates (HURRAY), space all to myself and a huge roof terrace to boot..... life is good. However the nature of living in a studio is open plan compact space. I have been very good, by my standards anyway and have edited alot of possessions - difficult but liberating; I have had the words of William Morris resounded in my ears 'keep nothing in your home you do not believe to be useful or beautiful' clever guy. However as space is tight I have been challenged on the furniture front. I have a small table and chairs that came with the flat, which I can't stand but the land lady won't take away, so we work around that and at the moment one easy chair - which I bought beaten up and reupholstered in divine Colefax aged striped bronze coloured velvet. The dilema is if I have people over there is no where other than the at the table for them to sit, not ideal. As space is very tight, a standard sofa would swamp the space, I have been looking for a 1.5 seater sofa/extra wide chair to fit into the only space it could go - which is a very tight 140cm wide. So being the research queen that I am I started hunting, confident that I can put all my Interior Design knowledge to use for perfect piece of furniture - to fit the space, be stylish and comfortable. So I hunted and hunted and hunted....... Who knew it would be so very hard to find, there is a definate gap in the market here!

Well finally my persistence paid off and I found this Snooze Sofa from Ochre - size, classic proportions, style, comfort is all here - Eureka! Well, called up Monday morning full of excitment to find out the price, how much fabric required, seat filling options etc only to find that even at trade price it is way over my budget....... despair.

Ok time to think laterally - I know upholsterers who may have made something similar to this in the past, could they help? Watch this space......... where there is a will there is I way, I'm sure of it.

  1. Your little studio home sounds just wonderful Vanya - I'm sure you'll find the perfect 1.5 seater sofa for the space, you have a detective's persistence! And I love the no flatmates thing - there's nothing like having your very own space that's your & yours alone!

  2. That is such an adorable little couch! I hate it when trade price is still crazy expensive though, can't they offer 50% off?!
